Outreach Project
Hotel at the End of the Universe sponsors and raises funds for small scale projects around Nagarkot, that serve the community, and especially the youngest ones. Currently, the hotel works with the Karuna School (Telkot) as well as a children’s home in Bhaktapur. Both the school and the children’s home are run by the Nepalese NGO “Children of the Universe”.
The Karuna school (non-profit) focuses on the needs of more than 70 young village children, with nursery, and Kindergarten classes. It is set in a beautiful spacious green environment in Telkot. The school provides the poorest with scholarship, while letting capable parents take a financial share in the cost by requesting a minimal yearly school fee. Concerning the play-way method that is used, one of the teachers commented: “I’m so happy to be able to be friendly with the children. They come to us for help and comfort. In our time, we were so scared of our teachers!”.
The children’s home is the home of 10 children, a house mother and a helper. Various well wishers help the children with their daily homework. The children call each other brother and sister, and the atmosphere is one of a family. The NGO depends on donations to support the home.
Hotel at the End of the Universe furthermore delivers aid (financial/ material) to other projects, i.e. the restoration of a government school wall that has collapsed.

Volunteering
As there is much development work to be done in Nepal in general, and as such in our area from Nagarkot to Bhaktapur, we have decided to set up a volunteer project. This way, we can function as a bridge between those that wish to extend their help, and those projects that need help.
We hope to offer more than just a 'filling of gaps' in the projects. We aim to really develop the places that we let our volunteers work at. In other words, we would rather train the teachers at a school, than only teach the students.
If you want to work with us, please let us know what you would like to do, so that we can try to make your work here as much in agreement with what you want as possible.

» Volunteer co-ordination: communication about your questions about Nepal , voluntary work in Nepal and your specific project;
» Stay, dinner and breakfast at Hotel at the End of the Universe; - Lunch at project site;
» Transport to and from the voluntary project if necessary;
» Donation to "Children of the Universe", NGO (school and Children's home).
